The Love of God

There’s a book in the Bible that is full of warnings, wisdom and encouragement. It’s not one of the most quoted books. You don’t see many of these verses on calendars with lovely scenes. But I urge everyone to read this book , Second Peter. In this book are warnings about false preachers and about the second coming of Jesus , along with judgment of God . Because God loves us, he graciously gave us these warnings and prophesies so we know what He expects and what is going to happen to those who believe and those who reject His free offer of forgiveness.

8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. – 2 Peter 3:8-9

See that last word , repentance? That’s what God expects . Not just believing that Jesus is real or God is real or similar things but the understanding and belief that we are sinners who have failed to obey God’s laws and deserve judgment, but thanks to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection , we can repent of our sins and receive forgiveness by his grace through our faith that He is able to do it .

Read these urgent words from Peter.

1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,

4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,

6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,

7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. – 2 Peter 1:1-7

Obviously God loves us very much as we are his creation , his children, and he wants to save us. Will you repent and receive forgiveness and follow Jesus?

Beware of false teachers and false churches calling themselves Christian but not preaching Christ crucified for our sins! Some progressive churches are deceiving people by saying that Christ did not die for sin. That is not what the Bible teaches. Read it for yourself. Do not be fooled by those who just want your tithes and offerings .

1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.

3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. – 2 Peter 2:1-3

God is a balance of love and holiness which includes the fact that he cannot overlook sin! Therefore Jesus took our punishment, willingly , that we might be reconciled to God and have eternal life.

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

19 in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,

20 because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. – 1 Peter 3:18-20

  1. It’s so easy to be taken in by today’s ‘progressive’ preachers. Some even try to convince people that the resurrection of Jesus didn’t take place and that it is irrelevant. I’m staying with the truth of God’s Word.

  2. 2 Peter 3:9 is my Life Verse! It declares God’s patience with us, wanting to give us every opportunity to repent of our sin and accept the saving grace of Jesus Christ. / I recently re-read 2 Peter and loved his calling out of false preachers, many of whom take up residence in the “progressive” churches, which bear the name of Christian but which do not hold to the Bible as God’s holy truth.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
