Book Review : The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

My friend mentioned this book to me and I was so excited when I happened upon a like-new hardcover copy in a thrift store.

Denny is a full-time race car mechanic and part-time professional race car driver who is greatly loved by his dog Enzo who narrates the story of their journey together. After Denny gets married, life gets more complicated for both of them.

Enzo loves racing as much as Denny and shares his knowledge of the sport with the reader. He is also a very philosophical, wise and practical dog who wishes fervently that he could talk so he could help people.

Unexpected events bring a true test of endurance to their lives. Denny’s racing skills and Enzo’s self-less love and guidance help him stay strong even when forces threaten to destroy them.

This is a well written , easy flowing and interesting story that kept me turning the pages . You don’t have to be a dog or racing fanatic to enjoy it. The plot line holds its own. But I feel like I will never think of a dog as just a dog after reading this book. There might be a whole lot more going on in their heads than we know.
Interested in reading this book? If you don’t get lucky like me at the thrift shop, you can find it on Amazon.
