Mormonism is an Impossible Burger

Why Mormonism is not Christianity, Explained Simply

Hamburger

Some people claim that an Impossible Burger tastes the same as a real hamburger made from actual ground beef from a cow. I’ve never eaten one, but I do know that they AREN’T the same thing despite marketing and external appearances. What’s inside those patties is totally different.

Soy protein, lots of sodium, and other flavors

It’s the same with Christianity compared to Mormonism ( LDS )theology. They may look similar and use a similar name, but what’s inside is not at all based on the same teachings. And most importantly, belief in the teachings of LDS will not result in the same outcome (salvation) as belief in the teachings of Biblical Christianity.

Basic Christianity teaches that God has always existed, He created everything, and that Jesus and the Holy Ghost/Spirit are separate, but equally divine parts/persons of God in the doctrine of the Trinity. But that’s not what Mormons believe.

They believe that God was once a man like us and that there’s a “ladder” you have to climb of good works to get to heaven and that’s how God became God, too. He worked his way up. And they believe Jesus was a man, too, not the Son of God who came down from heaven to earth to save us from our sins. This is a critical distinction.

There are also alternative interpretations of the nature of God in LDS theology, but they differ from what the original “prophet” Joseph Smith taught. If he was wrong about this key point was he really a prophet?

If you don’t understand who God is and why Jesus had to die and be resurrected to save you from your sins, you don’t understand Christianity because the whole point of the “good news” of the gospel is that your sins were forgiven by Jesus’ substitutionary atonement. Your sins were paid for by his death but then he rose again from the dead and will reign in the future Kingdom. We aren’t saved by good works , though we should do them.

We are saved by faith in Jesus, by his free gift of grace. Yes, all you have to do is believe. If you truly believe, your life will be transformed gradually as God works in your spirit.

This one difference is enough to put a huge space between the two religions. There are many other differences. The following video is helpful.

This is an excellent video and channel. The one on Idolatry is helpful.
Joseph Smith taught the heresy that God used to be a man, not that God has always existed.
He taught that you have to “save yourself”, not that Jesus saves you.
He taught that with proper living all people have the power to become actual gods.

Mormons are some of the nicest people and their lifestyle is very attractive. It can feel mean and judgmental to say that they are actually deceived cult members. But sadly this is the truth. Like most cults, they are highly organized and their members are very good at conforming to the rules because they believe that following the rules is necessary to get to heaven.

This post isn’t intended to explain everything that’s wrong with their teachings. I urge you to do more research if you’re still not convinced that they aren’t Impossible burgers.

  1. Very clever analogy!😂
However, I think that Mormons DO believe Jesus is the “son of God,” because they teach that God the Father had sex with Mary and impregnated her. Elohim (God) had lots of other progeny, including Lucifer, Jesus’ “brother,” but only Jesus was born from a human woman.
