Jesus Lights up the Darkest Days and Nights

All of January, all of February, and now 9 days into March, my daughter has been in the hospital and my mother has been suffering declining health from ALS . I’ve also had financial and other family stressors and have been emotionally supporting friends and loved ones through their own difficulties. The saying “Getting old sucks!” comes to mind frequently. And also the saying “Things could be worse, and they will probably get worse before they get better.”. Then I remember the most beautiful truth, “I am the way, the truth, and the light.”

The eternal truths of the Bible and the love of God and the protections and guidance of the Holy Spirit continue to supernaturally carry me through one day at a time. I know that due to the fall, life on earth is temporary. We are not expected to toil and suffer here forever. God takes us home where things will be so much better, perfect, happy, pain free! But getting through this season of life can be really sad and stressful and lonely at times. Thankfully the Lord Jesus has promised to be with us and I can tell you that He is with me. He is the light of the world!

Daily trusting Him helps me stop trying to carry this load by myself and brings me supernatural confidence that God has a plan, even in the dark times. Losing friends and family and suffering health problems and pain and financial uncertainty and watching grown children struggle, you need supernatural assistance! I’m so thankful for God’s love and grace and his peace. Jesus is my light!

  1. Well said! Life can really come at you from all sides sometimes. I’m so thankful we have Jesus to hang onto. Sometimes all I can do is just remind myself, “this too shall pass.” We will walk through it together.

    • I’m in the stage where I am no longer expecting it to get better . We went through an extended trial starting in 2000. Since then there have been good times . Right now feels like another “settle in , it’s gonna be a long ride “ .

      • Yes, likely true. I think we really need to tuck ourselves into Christ, so that we have peace no matter what comes our way. What happens out in the world just becomes background noise. For Christians it just gets better and better for us, as we draw closer to the Lord and get to know Him.
