Holding on to Hope

My posts have been pretty gloomy lately. You might be surprised to know that I’ve actually been accused of being too positive in the past. I used to be all about having fun, going places, excited about life. That part of me has definitely been moderated by reality. But I think it’s extremely important to not lose hope.

Our hope comes from knowing that we are loved by our creator, saved from the judgment, and that God is with us even now. We don’t have to wait to be joyful after we die and go to heaven. We can experience that joy and peace now even in these uncertain times.

But it takes effort to not let the crazies get to you. I admit that I’m finding it more difficult. This is when I have to refocus my thoughts more often and let the peace that passes understanding flood my mind.

It’s not my job to fix this world. It’s my job to love God and love people. And that requires knowing and reminding myself that God is so much greater than anything happening in this limited and temporary world.

What matters is not money or things or earthly pleasures, it’s truth and love and righteousness. Righteousness is simply doing the right thing according to God’s definition of right. It is seeking God’s glory as we live with imperfect people in an imperfect world. What matters is love.

So take heart my friends, Jesus has overcome the world! Let’s remember that as we get closer to celebrating the Resurrection! He was crucified AND resurrected. He died on that cruel cross, but he defeated death and now He is seated at the right hand of God. And he will judge the world at the right time. And not a day sooner. We can count on that.

This is the day the Lord has made. Let’s rejoice and be glad ! Amen

PS: the photo is of a graphic I made on my computer back when computers and inkjet printers were new and exciting. I printed out all kinds of stuff. I made this one for my mother in law and put it in a frame and when she died , her daughter gave it back to me. My husband says his mom would recite that verse to him daily. I miss that great lady! You ,too, can be a good influence on those around you today.
