One day a couple of months ago I had a sudden inspiration to rent a lake house. I went to VRBO and this was the first listing I saw and I knew it was the one. Even though it had no reviews because it was a new listing, I made the reservation. I’ve had a few requests for the listing information, here it is.
We didn’t really “have the money” for a family vacation, but I trusted that I could “find the money”. Some of you will understand that way of thinking. It comes from years of experience with being a believer and living on a low income. It’s not being irresponsible, it’s knowing that God is directing you in a certain direction and that He will work out the details. I clicked the button.
Well, a couple of weeks before our trip we got an envelope in the mail from my sister in law whom we haven’t seen in a few years since both of my husband’s parents passed away. In it was a check from my mother in law’s closed out checking account, the final balance shared amongst the siblings. The check covered the majority of the rental! So God provided for our vacation through my husband’s late mother! And the cool thing is that she is from East Texas. We like to think that she is smiling right now as she watches us enjoy our time on the lake .

The house is located on Lake Livingston which is a 129 sq. mile manmade lake in East Texas. It’s been perfect for our family. Not too fancy, but very nice, homey, and comfortable. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus a loft with four beds.

We have all so enjoyed sitting and watching the water and the birds and the sunsets. We tried out the kayaks Tuesday and we’ve been loving the pool.
Wednesday the weather was changing and kicked up some wind and we sat on the boat deck just watching the waves. I also went for a run around the neighborhood that morning . On Thursday we kayaked again and right after we got out of the boats the wind rose up again. There’s a storm down in the Gulf.
The sound of the waves and the reflection of the sunlight on the water is so soothing. I could sit on this deck every day. Boating is nice but I don’t really need it. I’m happy just being by the water. I can’t help but think that there’s something special about H2O.

This has been a wonderful place to spend time with my family. Three of my sons were able to take time off from work and we brought Grace along with us. I am so thankful for how it has all worked out. We hope to visit again soon.

I agree that there is just something about the water 🙂 So glad you guys were able to get away and take a break! We went to the beach last summer for a much needed vacation. We hadn’t taken one in a long time and it was definitely needed since we knew we probably wouldn’t have another opportunity anytime soon (and especially with all the kids, our oldest is getting…older!). So while it was a bit of a headache at times, it was definitely worth it! Thankfully we were able to not pay for lodging (we stayed with my parents) and just basically had to cover gas and food items. So very glad that God provided a way for you! God Bless!!
It’s work for sure, especially for mom, but it was well worth it. Have a great weekend!
What a coincidence! Sounds like an awesome week. Haven’t listened to your podcast yet, it’s been a week, but catching up this weekend on things
An acquaintance from Texas (who was 4’10” tall!) used to enjoy saying, “Well, don’tcha know EVERYthing is bigger in Texas!” 😁 But that appears to be true about that man-made lake! What a wonderful time Father has given you and your family.
“My beloved speaks and says to me: ‘Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away,
for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come,
and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.'” Song of Solomon 2:10-12

What a great story!
Thanks!
What a wonderful gift from grandma.
She would’ve been happy . She lived to be 93 years and never lost her mental snap. A wonderful lady .
