Questions for my fellow WP Bloggers

Did you upgrade and ,if so, to which level?

Do you think it was worth it and why or why not?

Are you making enough money off Ads to cover the cost?

What other ways do you monetize your blog?

Considering MY BLOG, what recommendations would you have for me as far as upgrading?

Should I start fresh , keep the same name, change some things?

My current domain is eat the sky, but I changed my blog name to Blue Skies, Green Pastures. Thoughts on which one to use, or neither?

Should I try to stick to one or two main topics or keep being random like I am?

Thank you very much for any and all comments and suggestions! I know it’s only a $100 a year or so , but we can’t afford to throw money away for nothing. πŸ™‚

  1. Sorry I’m no help on any of the questions but the first and last. I’m frugal..still using the WP free plat form πŸ™‚ Last question…I subscribed because I like the variety of the topics you write about , and your keeping it real. DM

    • Thanks for the input! I picked that title back when I used to get so ‘high’ on the beauty of a clear day that I felt like I could just ‘eat’ it! But I thought it might be too mystical so I changed it. Sadly I have not seen much blue sky in the past few months.

  2. I did not upgrade. I make $0 and spend $0, so at least I’m breaking even. I did pay for a domain name on a previous blog, but when I got tired of it and quit paying for it, someone else bought the domain and copied my content. So my blog was there, but with their adds, and I had no control. I ended wishing that I’d kept the .wordpress.com.

  3. I have WordPress and pay minimum price for the domain. I have no ads, make no money. I blog to write what I believe God wants me to write, and He can cause it to be read by anyone He chooses, anywhere in the world. (That still blows my mind.) Writing one piece a week “keeps me fresh,” and I’ve enjoyed connecting with other bloggers.

  4. No, I didn’t upgrade. I have the version where you pay a deminimus fee per annum. It’s not the business plan though. I can’t remember what it’s called. It works for me so I think I’ll just renew it when my year ends in July.

      • But you are paying for it, right? Mine is free. So you started off paying I guess. I might try that simple plan. Are you able to see the search terms that people use to find you or do you even look at the analytics?

      • I started off paying. I have a theory about free stuff but I’ll just keep that to myself…Nah, I don’t look at the analytics. “Search terms”? What’s that? Girl, I just write and then publish. I don’t care who sees it or how many people see it. May the chips fall where they may. I suppose I’d be a little more cognizant of that stuff if I was trying to monetize but I’m not. I just like to write and interact with others. πŸ™‚

      • I know that theory, lol. And it’s true. I just like to write and interact, too. But I do get curious about how people end up on my page. And I think I have more time than you to geek out over this stuff. If I had a real job like you, I wouldn’t even be thinking about monetizing.

      • LOL…..If you want me to let you know how much I pay I would be happy to check my account settings and let you know. Off the top of my head I can’t remember though. πŸ€”

      • No worries . Btw I just went for a run and it’s so hot and humid my clothes are soaked in sweat. 😦 But 40s next week, lol.

  5. I have the basic pay package. No, I don’t make money from blogging. πŸ™‚ I think you have to work really hard: following, re-blogging, commenting, sneaky-selling stuff, and offering services for a fee to make anything.

  6. I use to be with wordpress.com, but I decided to go off on my own because I didn’t like how my email followers were getting ads sent to them from wordpress.com. I still stay in touch with my followers, like yourself, on wordpress.com, and I try to promote local talent, like my wife who is an artist, and anyone else who is developing the gifts that God has placed within them.

I think the bottom line to ask yourself is where is the Holy Spirit leading you, and how does He want to spend your time? For example, I think doing this post, was a great idea, as you are getting feedback from other followers. So, well done! Be encouraged to take one step at a time, one day at a time, and see where He leads you. Blessings!

    • Thank you . I am pretty new to blogging so I don’t quite understand how it all works and I am not sure I want to devote that much time to learning, but I need something. We are drowning in debt and I would like to be able to help my husband and you know there are a million blogs telling you how it easy it is to make money blogging. Haha! I am praying about it. I am not sure if it is the Holy Spirit or my own mind pushing me. Thank you for your prayers and blog.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
