Catching my foot on the invisible root,
I crash down without warning.
Breathing hard, frowning, heart sinking,
I catch my breath and pull myself up.
Only a scratch , I think, and begin a slow plod, hoping not to feel pain.
Thoughts rushing through my head,
What did I trip on ?
Pick up my feet!
Am I injured?
Adrenaline pumping, heart racing, flight or fight.
Only a scratch. No pain. Pick up the pace.
I keep going, thankful that I can.
Thanks for stopping by! If you want to watch something very inspirational, I highly recommend this film by Billy Yang about Dave Mackey, a pro trail runner who had his leg crushed, then amputated, and still finished the Leadman race.
That’s what makes winners PK, those who can push past the pain and finish.
Not all of us can finish.
Do you have an upcoming race? I have a 5k trail race with my son next weekend, but I’m looking for something longer to train for.
Oh cool! I have a 12 hour looped race this weekend, Jackalope Jam. It’s right by my house. What kind of race do you want ?
Er, not a 12 hour one! I was thinking a 10 or so mile trail run. Wow, PK–that’s impressive. Good luck.
Lol, we’ll see, I haven’t been running much lately so I have no idea how many miles I am up for. This one is very popular and has various distances. http://www.trailracingovertexas.com/events/2017/5/27/brazos-bend-50 . Or I think this one is closer to you. http://www.trailracingovertexas.com/events/2019/5/25/possums-revenge .
Thank you!
Great post, my friend. A very needed encouragement 🙂 May the Lord bless you
