A Tornado of Controversy: Talking About the Weather

The weather has been getting extra attention lately, even from politicians . Evidently they just discovered that a large segment of the population believes that the government/elites is manipulating the weather and causing or worsening storms. And they’ve been under extra scrutiny and criticism due to slow, inadequate response to Hurricane/TS Helene . Then Hurricane Milton came along to add gas to the fire.

While I look at my brown dead grass and feel the 97 degrees on this October 12, I can’t help but send up prayers for rain and a cold front.

I have been thinking about weather and storms and disasters. Many of my friends do not trust the government. They don’t believe that fossil fuels cause global warming . They believe the climate changes naturally based on cycles. Some of them also believe that there are people controlling the weather with chemtrails and radio frequencies and cloud seeding.

Weather manipulation may have just entered the conversation, but climate change has been pushed for years, despite the fact that experts are still fighting over what to do about it. We have been soaking it up for years. https://www.bbc.com/newsround/48605993

The AP is not a good news source, but I found it surprising that they put out this article . https://apnews.com/article/dubai-united-arab-emirates-oman-flooding-cloud-seeding-2f8c12854017e11ac7438579646b3758

I don’t see a problem with believing both that the climate changes naturally , not by fossil fuels, and that the weather can be tampered with by external forces.

I really don’t know what to believe about weather manipulation , despite many friends telling me that there’s a ton of proof that “they” can worsen storms. I’m not saying my friends are wrong, just that I don’t know what’s actually possible . This blog has some great details on the topic Is the U.S. Using Weather Weapons to Rig Elections?

But I did it find it very interesting when politicians got involved in the conversation last week.

But here’s the thing: whether these floods and tornadoes are caused by fossil fuels or not, they are VERY EXPENSIVE AND DEADLY. And either way, someone has to pay for the rebuilding and recovery.

It became obvious that the general public expects the government to pay. But the government says it’s not their job, we should turn to local authorities and have our own insurance. In the past storms weren’t quite so costly. But with inflation, rebuilding a house or a whole town is WAY more expensive.

This is just one more consequence of the terrible financial management of our current administration. Actually it goes way back, but it’s catching up thanks to Covid dollars .

You can blame whoever you want but the fact is we are all at risk of similar disasters. Floods , fires, tornadoes, drought, windstorms are getting more frequent and severe. Our little town has two windstorms pass through in quick succession this spring! Trees fell everywhere and roofs were torn off. It was bad . No flood, no hurricane, but a lot of damage.

So ask yourself what you would do if it happened to you. Do you have enough homeowners insurance? Flood insurance? Wind damage coverage? Savings for emergencies or minor repairs? A place to go if you had to evacuate?

How will you communicate if the cell towers are not working? What about your auto insurance? Would it pay if your car is destroyed by a storm? Do you have trees that could fall on your house? These storms are doing unprecedented damage!

Does your local government have a sufficient disaster plan? Your state ?

This problem is not going away. Policymakers should be devoting more time to addressing this issue. It’s great that many people are helping each other in Western North Carolina and other areas hit by Helene and Milton but as these storms come closer together, resources will get spread thin.

Of course these are the same things that the “climate crisis” movement has been warning us about for the last decade. They said we would see more extreme weather events. It’s almost like they knew it was going to happen.

I don’t know the answer , but I do know one thing. God can change the weather. He can bring disaster and stop storms. We need to make prayer and national repentance a priority . But I also know that the Bible says there will be more disasters in the end times.

The following is a Facebook post from a popular Houston weatherman that provoked a heated exchange between those who believe the government did something to make the two hurricanes worse and those who don’t believe in weather manipulation.

Then here’s the weather this week (October) where I live . Warm is normal but we broke records yesterday. It has been hot and DRY. No rain in a long time. Looking forward to tomorrow’s cool down.

  1. The bible does say these things will increase in the ‘end times’. But I suspect that lots of people don’t know this, they put their faith in science instead of God. (Thats probably where the problem and solution lies). As regards to fossil fuels, I’m not sure if this is the problem either. As you say, the climate is changing all the time. But also, we are told to lower our carbon emissions while missiles are being fired off in the thousands across the globe in various wars. How much are these damaging the environment.

As regards controlling the weather, I can remember when Moscow hosted the Olympics, some years ago. The russians did what was called cloud busting. It entailed firing rockets into clouds and releasing some gas. This stopped them from raining on the olympic sports. It was said that the nearby towns suffered constant rain all through the event. Of course, this is only to have some control on the rain, not a hurricane.

  2. I think a discussion about climate change is a dumb conversation because it’s too emotional contingent upon whom you are talking to. I think a better discussion is to advocate the “Boy Scout” mentality of leaving your camp area better than how you found it.

    • But how ? Other than picking up your trash , maybe planting a tree ? If global warming is real , can we really change that by eliminating fossil fuels? That is the question.
