Rescuing My Neighbor

My dog is a hero. Yesterday my elderly neighbor got lost in the woods between our houses. Thankfully my dog spotted him and alerted me when I was on my way out to search for him.

I wouldn’t have noticed him in that brushy area behind the fence if she hadn’t run straight to him. Of course she barked at him like she always does, but he was very glad to see us.

He was badly scratched and bloodied and the whole back of his shirt was ripped open exposing his back. He had gotten confused and wasn’t sure which way was home and had been trying to find his way out for nearly two hours .

It was quite a task getting him through the barbed wire but it was the only option. My husband said I could’ve cut the fence, but I didn’t even think of that. I just knew I had to get him out of there . First I got him under the top and second wire, the fence was slightly bent over, then my son arrived just at the right time to help him step over three strands of wire . He had a vine wrapped around his foot! I had to pull it off as he was climbing over the barbed wire. Then he climbed up into the Mule.

It was quite a time. I’m so thankful that he’s okay . No serious injuries. It could have been bad.

He was trying to climb over the fallen tree and go deeper into the woods when she saw him. He hadn’t noticed that he was by my house.
The area where he was found is in the left corner of this photo . I wouldn’t have seen him if my dog hadn’t barked .
This photo shows the tall weeds and bushes in the area of that corner . He was behind the barbed wire fence. Four strands of taut wire.
He entered the woods behind the lake and got lost out there in the thick jungle like forest and was where the X is when we found him.
I was driving this to the woods and she was running .
