Happy Easter!

I don’t make plans anymore. Life is just too unpredictable. So I didn’t know what we were going to do for Easter this year until today. Turns out that I was going to get up and make banana pudding, spinach dip, a red velvet cake, and deviled eggs, then go to church .

I spent about five minutes getting ready for church. Then I got in my van with two of my sons and drove off. A minute later my husband called and told me that my other son wanted to go, so I gladly went back and got him. We got to church on time and were blessed to find a pew space big enough for the four of us . The church was packed as it should be. After a wonderful worship service, special music, and moving sermon about Peter denying Jesus and then being restored after the resurrection , we returned home.

Then I put the honey glazed ham in the oven , made mashed potatoes after my son peeled them, made cole slaw, opened canned navy and green beans and put them in pans, ate some deviled eggs and spinach dip because I was hungry, and sent my son to go pick up my mom.

My mom is trying hard to fight ALS. She’s struggling hard to speak now and eating takes a very long time. She got a feeding tube recently , but she’s still continuing to eat by mouth. I understand that eating would be hard to give up. I’m thankful that we could spend another Easter together.

Grace is doing pretty well since she came home from the hospital, but the caregiver life is exhausting. The alarm on the ventilator goes off frequently. Someone has to be close to her at all times in case she needs suctioning. We haven’t been getting enough sleep. I bought a nice Vtech baby monitor yesterday so I can at least go into my office. We still don’t have a nurse, but one is supposed to come this Thursday.

I hope you all had a nice Easter! He is risen!

  1. Great to read your update. There is so much packed into your words, ‘The care giving life is exhausting..” I spent 9 days a couple of years ago now, staying with my parents 24/7 with little breaks in between until he was transferred to the hospital….Trusting the nurse shows up on Thursday, and you’ll get as much help as you need….DM

  2. Praying for you my friend. I do understand, in a smaller way, how exhausted you must be. Your daughter is blessed to have you and your family to care for her as best you can. Praying the nurse gives you a much needed breather. God Bless!

  3. Paula, we too weren’t sure what we were doing, either, until Saturday night. My daughter and I were both spent and the only thing we made for Easter dinner was a reservation. I so admire you for the care you give your mom and daughter, and I’m thinking the Lord has to be giving you extra energy and patience these days. It says something about you that He trusts you with the calling you have for this season of your life. Blessings to you and yours.
