Freedom and Responsibility

Progress always leads to inequality, but does that mean we should not have progress? No. It means we must recognize that all people won’t progress at the same rate and that we will need to prevent the extreme inequality which leads to hate , crime and violence. It’s the only way to protect freedom.

We can choose to do this because we know it’s the right thing to do or we can be forced to do it when violent leaders rise up in the left behind group. In other words, ignoring the fact that progress is leaving many people unable to afford basic necessities will always lead to cultural disintegration.

Alvin Toffler wrote about how many people would not be able to cope with the current technological changes in his book Future Shock. Are we going to respond to these changes by becoming less compassionate and say “oh well, survival of the fittest!” ? Or will we be like Jesus and take care of the poor, the widow, the sick, the fatherless, the immigrant, and the prisoner? The LORD is watching.

Zechariah 7:8-12

[8] And the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, [9] “Thus says the LORD of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, [10] do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.” [11] But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear. [12] They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the LORD of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the LORD of hosts.

  1. I remember reading an article a long time ago by someone who had done the math, saying that if everyone in America who called himself/herself a Christian were to actually (>gasp<) TITHE, the Church would have enough to feed the hungry, house the homeless, care for the sick, etc., and we'd need no government social programs. Not sure if that's true, but it would be nice to try it.

    • I’m starting to understand that American individualism has become self defeating and destructive to true nationalism which is by nature collectivist . We can’t say we love America and freedom and only care about ourselves.
