Faith Like a Child

Jesus loves me, this I know,

For The Bible tells me so.

Little ones to him belong

They are weak

But He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me,

The Bible tells me so!

Children have a simple faith in God ( and their parents) based on dependence on someone more powerful than them, the hope and expectation of provision for their needs, and the natural awareness of the supernatural. Only as they get older and struggle with various temptations, emotional experiences, and disappointments do they begin to doubt. They start to lose their belief in things they can’t see.

And as adults we develop a more informed knowledge of who God is, his character, his expectations, his provision for our spiritual need for salvation. But we can only really trust him when we return to the simple, dependent faith that He loves us and will supernaturally provide for everything we need. And with that faith, we can peacefully love others the way He loves us.
