Do you ever get a lot of comments and Likes from a follower on social media that you have no idea who they are and how they became your follower? I do and sometimes it drives me a bit nuts. I’m talking about nice comments and friendly interactions, but you just don’t really know WHO is that person. I like to have some kind of frame of reference, a picture in my mind , of who is talking to me and sometimes that is not possible when you accept friend requests from people you don’t know in real life, which I do on Instagram and Twitter and occasionally on Facebook. Am I the only one who actually thinks of ‘followers’ as real people and is curious about them?
I mostly reject accounts that are simply trying to add to their follower count and I have a Private account on IG so you must request to follow me. I don’t want to admit that I don’t know who they are, so sometimes I will do a little detective work. They might be a random person I friended due to common interests in running or hiking, or they might be someone I met at a race or through a friend. Hopefully they are not a potential stalker or bot. I do appreciate the love on my posts.
So whoever you are , thanks for Liking and Commenting on my posts and being so nice! If I do know you in real life, please forgive the brain fart. Keep up the positivity and kindness! You’re awesome. 🙂
Jesus, Peace, Love, and Running Forever!

I know the feeling. Nothing creepy, I just like to know where people are. I love to get followers from other parts of the U.S. and from other countries. I love feeling as if I’m “traveling” the world without leaving my kitchen!
(BTW, my name is Ann – or Annie – and I’m in Louisville, KY. 🙂 )
Nice to meet you Annie! 🙂 And I love ‘knowing’ people from all over, too!
I don’t really think about it, but I also keep many details to myself. If I had a picture of myself I’d be more curious
Making social media buddies is always interesting. I’ve met some really great people that I’ve gotten to know well over time without ever actually meeting them. Some I’ve ended up meeting at races and it’s like we were already friends. 🙂
There can be a “creepy” factor at times though haha.
Right! Lol! I always hope and pray that things don’t take a bad turn.
You are right on there PK!
my privacy settings are such that all comments have to be approved by me before they show on my WP. Plus, I routinely remove businesses since I won’t let them profit off of my site. Lastly, I routinely sweep my followers and remove those who don’t have active accounts. I guess the bottom-line is it’s your WP and your rules.
I’m a relatively new follower here…can’t remember how I got here to be honest. I saw that you were a believer, and one of the posts I read made me want to subscribe..that’s my condensed story as to how I wound up here. (My first name is Douglas btw) 🙂 DM
Nice to meet you , Douglas ! I was actually talking more about Instagram and Facebook but I’m glad to know about my WP friends, too! I had no idea when I started blogging that I’d make friends here like I did on Facebook. I love it!
I don’t friend people on FB unless I’ve seen them in real life… but, yeah- I have a public account I wonder about sometimes. 🙂
