They Really Believe They’re In The Right

The culture war is reaching new levels.

The left thinks they have the high ground. The right thinks they do.

It’s really sad ,and also unsettling and reminiscent of the BLM days of 2020.

How can people be so divided over what’s right and wrong? How can both sides be so sure they’re right?

It’s difficult to have a conversation when you don’t speak the same language. And sometimes you think the other person is on the same page, they seem rational. They might be a relative or a close friend or coworker.

But then they say something that is the opposite of what you believe. Suddenly you have to decide if you’re going to debate or go quiet.

For example, all reasonable people want to protect children from harm, right ? But try to define what’s harmful in this culture and you’ll quickly find that not everyone agrees.

Is it harmful to expose children to graphic sexual content (that used to be considered deviant) in school libraries or sex education classes ? Is it harmful to allow children to make decisions about their bodies at a young age that have permanent consequences? Is it harmful to teach your religious beliefs to your children? Is it harmful for infants and children to be adopted by gay men?

In the past , the majority of child development experts, teachers, and parents would have agreed on the answers to these questions. But that’s changed.

Now a growing number of people believe that it’s harmful NOT to expose and even promote sexually explicit material to children. They think it’s harmful not to affirm a child’s desire to mutilate themselves. They think gay men make great dads, better than straight parents! And they think teaching a child religious beliefs is child abuse.

One side is more concerned with the idea of being supportive of any and all desires and preferences. The other believes that children need guidance and protection until they are mature enough to understand that feelings can change .

There is no way to reconcile these two opposing viewpoints. They are based on fundamentally different worldviews.

And both sides can’t be right . And the culture war is raging over many other cultural issues. That’s just one example.

It’s sad to see how many seemingly “good people” have been blinded by those and other extreme views. They really believe that they are doing the right thing.

To admit they have been wrong and have been on the side of evil would require great humility and courage. But I pray that it will happen.

  1. I have found that anything that contradicts the Word of God is false. I have also found that expecting any moral values from a government is expecting too much. That’s why the Lord said to pray for the government. He never said to take sides. Have the beliefs and vote according to the beliefs. And pray. That’s all. When the Bible is not the final authority, then opinions will voted most important

  2. Saddest of all is the misuse of the word, “tolerance.” Many feel they are so very tolerant… until you espouse a view with which they do not agree. Then you have to hope they do not have a gun to blow away a speaker who is simply and courteously challenging students to consider what they believe.
