“The Real West” on Tubi

Have you discovered the free streaming service called Tubi ? If you like documentaries, old movies from the 70s, and movies you never heard of , you’ll love it. My husband watches Tubi daily after work and I join him when I have time.

Yesterday he handed me the remote and I chose a documentary called The Real West . It turned out to be very interesting. Most of the visuals are actual photographs from the Gold Rush, land rush , and Indian eradication era. Gary Cooper narrates the story. He died from cancer shortly after making the film.

The gist of it is that the myth is different than the reality. Many of the Hollywood heroes were actually scoundrels and the women weren’t always beautiful. The film also addresses how the Native Americans were pushed off their promised patch of land by the government .

I feel like this movie should be shown in school history class . Things have certainly changed since then.

You can watch it free here. https://tubitv.com/movies/704911/the-real-west
