Reddit , AI , and Google

If you use Google , you may have noticed that you are being shown numerous Reddit posts at the top of the list . This is not by accident. Google made a deal with Reddit to train its AI brain. I find this change in search results very annoying.

My family was discussing how Google is not providing the same quality as before. It’s never been perfect , but it’s getting more difficult to find answers to basic questions on websites that aren’t selling something.

For example , if you ask a scientific or medical question, you will often need your scroll past ten or more consumer websites. You need to know which sites you want and go directly to them to get information without ads or bias. I avoid sites like WebMD , Healthline , and Medical News Today.

Google will also sometimes answer your search with an AI generated response synthesized from the internet rather than showing you the websites. What do you think of that ? Is it helpful or is it making us lazy and dependent on AI to read and come to conclusions? I admit that sometimes I appreciate the AI summary.

Just out of curiosity I decided to create a Reddit account . It’s been interesting but I don’t like the vibe. I really don’t like social media anymore. Too many rude people or too many rules. Reddit has more rules than Facebook! And also a lot of bad stuff, like Facebook, so I’ve been told. I have been careful to stick to safe topics like politics and economics. Haha!

Do you use Reddit?

  1. AI is going to be a major tool of the Man of Sin. One cannot hide from “IT” but we can resist, demanding a human on phone calls and stopping interactions on the web when we realize IT is not a human on the other end.❤️&🙏, c.a.

      • Just saw a title in Natl Geo!
“A ROBOT SHRINK? WHAT COULD GO WRONG?”
        Subheading reads”
“Chatbots and facial recognition technology are increasingly being used to treat and diagnose mental health conditions. While viral solutions are affordable and available 24/7, therapists caution that the technology might do more harm than good.”
Reeeally? Some therapists actually using their brains?

  2. I don’t use reddit, but I agree that google is becoming more useless (even if you type in really specific terms, the results just don’t come up in the most useful order like they used to)

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
