Tiny Germ Factories

Yes, babies. I spent two days taking care of infants in the church’s Mother’s Day Out program this week and was sick by the end of the second day. Despite getting a sore throat, fever, chills, and clogged sinuses, I had a wonderful time holding, feeding, and playing with the little angels. The plan is to make this a regular thing, and guess what, it’s a paid position!

I’m also beginning tax preparation training for Jackson Hewitt. I’ll be doing remote classes online for three weeks. Then, assuming I pass, I can apply for a position working at a kiosk in Walmart. This job gets good reviews .

Before I got sick I made the pictured chili Mac . It was delicious! Some people call it southern goulash, but I’d never heard it called that until recently. Here’s the recipe I used, but it’s basically chili mixed with macaroni. I used gluten-free pasta.

So that’s my news. Just wanted to check in. I’m not really up for real writing. Oh, and it’s still hot in Texas. Happy Fall! Have a great weekend!

  1. LOL! Kid’s are just germ mongers, I tell ya! Congratulations on the job. I’m glad you are learning about taxes, too! Most of those preparer companies like Jackson Hewitt, HR Block, Turbo Tax, Liberty, have free training programs or at least they should always be free. It’s a good way to earn some money, but it’s also just a good way to get an education about our tax system that you can use in your own life. People need to know stuff like how much money can you earn before your soc sec becomes taxable? What if you rent out of a room in your house? Who has to pay the taxes if you are doing something like doordash or uber driving?

Needless to say, I’m a huge fan of teaching people how to keep as much of their money in their own hands and away from the government, legally of course. 🙂

  2. Congratulations on two new jobs! You brought back a very bad memory when I volunteered at our nursery. I lost a child! There was a counter between where I was with the children and the door. A two-year-old girl got out the gate and walked out the door! She crossed the parking lot to the church and found her parents! Yikes! Our pastor was very kind and asked me to be on a committee to design a new nursery.

    • Oh no! 2 year olds are known to be good at escaping. One of mine left our house and was walking around the neighborhood . We were terrified that he might have fallen into the bayou. But thankfully we found him.

      • I know that feeling. My son was two and half when he went down the block while my husband was babysitting. He stripped naked and we found him with our rottie.

  3. Hope you are doing much better now! Being sick is never fun. We just got over the chicken pox in our house and if I never hear the word again, it will be too soon, lol! All nine of the kids got it to some degree, thankfully the baby got it last and only had about four spots so all good and now that sickness is down and hopefully to never be seen again! Congrats on the new job/jobs! I’ve always had an interest in accounting, maybe in the future, who knows 🙂 We are having unseasonably warm weather and haven’t even seen a frost yet (we usually have at least a light one the first or second week of September and a hard one by the third week at the latest). I am milking the warm weather for all it’s worth! Still have zucchini growing 🙂 God Bless!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
