My mom needed a new back porch. My husband, youngest son, and brother got busy and built it . She loves it. And my mom, sister-in-law and I had a good time hanging out watching them work. It was a great day! I’m so thankful for how it all worked out. I wanted to share with my blogging friends.
The cost of lumber has gone down, thankfully. They built a 5 by 5 deck with six steps for under $500. Not bad!

😊 Nice work
They did great. I’m so happy for her!
Nicely done, but the railing will not meet code anywhere! More than three steps need a railing (on the platform as well as down the stairs) that will not allow a child to fall through. Typically, this means 3 to 4 inch balusters with no more than 4 inches under the bottom rail.
What they built looks GREAT, but they really should add more railing. Some kits are available at Lowes or Home Depot that will make it easy to upgrade.
While most deck codes do not require stair risers, I would recommend putting 1x on the risers for the same effect of minimizing the “access” between the stairs.

Sadly there are no children around here . But I think it would look better your way . They ran out of wood .
